Cindy Parnes, M.D. – New Jersey Bioidentical Doctor

Cindy Parnes, MD is a gynecologist and bio-identical hormone replacement therapist practicing in Bergen County, NJ. Her practice focuses on women’s health, and she specializes in helping gynecological medical issues that include hormone imbalances, menopause, cancer screenings, adolescent medicine, weight loss, and laser skin care.

Dr. Parnes has been practicing in Bergen County since 1989 when she joined an established OB/GYN practice. She is board certified in OB/GYN with a yearly recertification and a Fellow of the American College of OB/GYN. Her practice provides the highest quality attention to woman in all stages of life from prevention to treatment and management. She provides comprehensive health care in a friendly and comfortable environment.

Dr. Parnes specializes in using bio-identical hormone therapy to help patients with hormone imbalance disorders. Bio-identical hormones are unique because they are exact in chemical structure to the hormones produced in the human body. While hormones can become inharmonious at any age, they most commonly decline with aging. Some of the hormones that may become imbalanced with aging are estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, melatonin, and DHEA. These imbalances cause disorders that can be treated with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, and some of these syndromes include, perimenopause, menopause, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, PMS, painful periods, amenorrhea, and irregular periods.

Many women suffering from hormone decline have had to take prescription drugs to combat the symptoms of different disorders; however, BHRT may be able to help women reduce prescription medication by getting to the root of the issues. Prescription medications can only treat the symptoms produced by hormone decline, but they cannot pull up the disorders at their roots. In addition to suffering from hormone imbalance symptoms, prescription drugs may often cause side effects, and in order to counteract the side effects, doctors sometimes prescribe more drugs, which can cause patients suffering from hormone decline to get caught in an unhappy cycle of taking more and more medication. If BHRT removes the cause of the problems, then women may be able to enjoy a higher quality of life with fewer medications and side effects.

Bio-identical Progesterone is a hormone that has allowed many patients to stop taking harsh prescription drugs. Women who have suffered from breast and uterine cancer are often prescribed Tamoxifen in order to prevent cancer. Ironically, Tamoxifen is a known carcinogen and may also cause liver disease, asthma, vision damage, and blood clots. Bio-identical progesterone is able to produce the same preventative effects as Tamoxifen without the same risks. This is because Progesterone is known to balance estrogen and inhibit tissue growth. Estrogen promotes the growth of breast and uterine tissue, and progesterone can protect the breasts and uterine tissue when it is properly balanced with estrogen.

Bio-identical Estrogen is another hormone that can reduce the effects of estrogen deficiency and the need for prescription drugs. Many of the symptoms experienced during menopause can be related to estrogen deficiency. Symptoms such as insomnia, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, weight gain, and depression are common issues in women and men with estrogen deficiency. Usually, they are prescribed drugs for insomnia, weight loss, and anti-depressants for depression. The high amounts of prescription drugs can create toxins in the liver, dizziness, nausea, headaches, and digestive disorders. Instead of taking several different prescriptions, some patients may be able to eliminate the need for them with BHRT.
